A few years ago, Otam launched the first yacht in what it calls the Aluminum Custom Range, to add metal yachts to its composite offerings. Another new aluminum model, the Otam Custom Range 115, has joined the series. In real custom fashion, myriad styles and designs are possible for everything from the bow to the interior configuration. And, true to Otam’s DNA, the megayacht should be capable of topping out at 44 knots with one propulsion option.
The first in the above-mentioned aluminum range was Gipsy, a 115-footer (35-meter) launched in 2016. Interestingly, shortly thereafter, Otam did create a custom 115 proposal, but that remained on the drawing boards. This new project is an entirely different design, with a different approach. It comes from working with BG Design Firm, the company responsible for the Otam 70 HT’s styling. Sporty yet simple, modern lines were priorities for the shipyard, as was a family feel to ensure continuity with other Otam models. This explains why BG Design firm pushed the deckhouse aft and elongated the bow, in authentic sportboat style.
While many megayacht builders claim to have custom projects, often those yachts are really semi-custom. Matteo Belardinelli, Otam’s sales director, asserts this is different. “The philosophy behind the Otam Aluminum Custom Range is that it is fully bespoke and aimed at clients who don’t just want a boat, they want to build their ideal project,” he says. For instance, despite the styling in the video above, you can tailor the aft deck, low-profile flying bridge, and foredeck. In fact, you can add opening bulwarks to the foredeck to expand usable space. Bulkheads inside are not fixed, either, letting you create fewer, larger staterooms than the standard four-cabin arrangement below decks.
You’ll likely want to keep your full-beam stateroom below decks, however. The build and design team also recommends a gym or spa aboard your Otam Custom Range 115. Consider, too, an open-plan main deck, with visibility straight from the aft deck to the helm. Yet another attractive feature is a chaise lounge deploying from the transom, and a garage for a PWC and 14-foot (4.2-meter) tender.
As for the speeds, the Otam Custom Range 115 should be one of the fastest aluminum megayachts on the water. Umberto Tagliavini Marine Design’s deep-V hull should allow maxing out at 44 knots and cruising at 32 knots with triple MTUs and a KaMeWa waterjet. Slow down just a bit with twin MTUs, for a 35-knot top end and 28-knot cruising speed.
