If ever there were an apt name for a yacht, the one for Citadel Yachts’ latest launch would be it. The 102-footer, which will soon cruise Alaska, has been christened Polar Bear.
Citadel Yachts, specializing in steel-hulled expedition yachts, built Polar Bear for an experienced American owner. The vast waters along the Alaskan coastline are ideal for Polar Bear’s range, exceeding 5,000 nautical miles. (Power is via twin 685-hp Caterpillar C-18Bs.) Leisurely cruising should be in the 10-knot range. A bulbous bow will aid in seakeeping. Close-to-shore adventures will come courtesy of a 24-foot fishing boat and two RIBs, all stowed aft of the wheelhouse.
Also maximizing the owner’s and guests’ enjoyment, there’s more than 3,000 square feet of interior relaxation space. That’s quite generous for a megayacht of this LOA. Highlights include cherrywood from the skylounge to the guest staterooms below decks. There, two VIPs accompany a queen-size stateroom and a twin stateroom. The full-beam (28 feet) master suite lies forward on the main deck. The captain and two crewmembers are housed forward below decks in two staterooms.
If the standard 102 layout and the 92-foot Miss Lisa, delivered two years ago, are any indication, Polar Bear will have a terrific galley, too. Barstools ring an island cooking area, for the ultimate show.
