Costa Rica holds great appeal for sportfishing enthusiasts and cruisers alike. IGY Marinas, which has raised the profile of a few international destinations, is setting its sights on the Central American country via a new partnership with a relatively new marina.
Marina Papagayo, which opened in late 2008 and immediately began welcoming megayachts, is working with the IGY team on a few fronts, mostly related to marketing. It seems a good pairing. Marina Papagayo is the first purpose-built, deep-water megayacht marina in Central America. Eighteen of its 180 slips can accommodate yachts from 80 to 220 feet LOA. (The rest of the berths are for boats and yachts from 35 feet to 79 feet.) The minimum depth of the slips is 12 feet, ideal for power and sail vessels alike. Furthermore, the amenities the superyacht set expect are on site: provisioning (delivered dockside as well), fueling, 24-hour security, laundry, wi-fi, and a marina concierge, among others. The marina is easily accessible via car or helicopter, as there’s an international airport in the city of Liberia less than half an hour away. Guests can also enjoy a golf course, spa, and restaurants at the adjacent Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica.
Under the agreement, Marina Papagayo will participate in IGY’s Anchor Pass program. For a set price, yachts can visit any of the six IGY destinations throughout the Caribbean over the course of a year. Marina Papagayo is further joining the IGY Anchor Club, which rewards captains with points redeemable for everything from vessel services to personal items like jewelry and electronics.
