Megayachts are marvels of modern engineering and design. A museum in Holland now agrees, hosting an exhibition focused on Amels.
“Floating Fortune: Superyachts Built by Amels in Vlissingen” opened to the public in May at the MuZEEum maritime museum in Vlissingen, Holland. Pictured above is the mayor of Vlissingen, René Roep (left), with Rob Luijendijk, Amels’ director, at the opening of the exhibit. (If you look at the poster at left, “Drijvend Vermogen” is Dutch for “Floating Fortune.”) Vlissingen is the same city where Amels is located. In fact, when its launches head out for sea trials and delivery, residents and visitors along the street where the museum is can watch the action. “Floating Fortune” allows them to see photos and videos of how the megayachts go from concept to completion. There are photos of everything from the steel hulls taking shape to the soft goods used throughout interiors. In addition, there are facts on the amount of materials used for each megayacht build, including fairing compound.
“Floating Fortune” will remain at the MuZEEum through March 18, 2012.
