A happy owner of an Oyster sailing yacht is about to become a whole lot happier. He’s commissioned a fully custom Oyster 115.
While Oyster does not say what model the client currently owns, the Oyster 115 fits in nicely between two existing semi-custom sailing superyachts, the Oyster 100 and Oyster 125. She’s being designed by Humphreys Yacht Design and Oyster’s in-house team. The two firms have collaborated on a number of yachts so far.
The Oyster 115 design is still undergoing finalization, but a few things are confirmed so far. First, the megayacht is intended for long-range cruising as well as performance. Her carbon fiber rig is set aft as a result, and the beam is carried aft as much as possible, too. Accommodations-wise, parties of 10 to 14 will be housed in five guest staterooms and the master (below), the latter having private access to the aft deck. Among the guest staterooms, one will be a kids’ cabin, where the bunk beds can fold up to turn the room into a playroom/TV room. It will be separate from the rest of the guest staterooms, for privacy. Interesting enough, opposite it will be the captain’s cabin, which the owner might on occasion use for overflow guests. Six crewmembers will further be aboard.
Among other features, the Oyster 115’s transom will hydraulically lower to become an extra-large swim platform and tender boarding area. As for that tender, it will be a waterjet-powered RIB, stowed in a recess forward. Once it’s offloaded, that recess will be able to be used as an additional cockpit, a nice touch.
Launch is expected in 2017, and the Oyster 115 will meet the MCA’s most updated large-yacht code, LY3.
