Sweden-based Delta Powerboats has turned its attention to the Americas. It’s marketing some of its carbon fiber sport boats and motoryachts, including the Delta Yacht 88 IPS, to the marketplace.
Delta Powerboats was founded in 2003 and has produced more than 400 projects thus far. The Delta Yacht 88 IPS, its largest model, debuted last autumn in Europe. LOA is, as the name suggests, 88 feet (26.8 meters). To properly address North, South, and Central American clients, Delta Powerboats established Delta Powerboats of the Americas in Miami this past April. The office handles sales and service for the brand. It’s headed by Chapman Ducote, a race-car driver, yacht owner, and entrepreneur. “I’ve always been obsessed with ‘power to weight ratios’ in race cars, and I’m excited to bring this same mentality to yachting,” he says.
The Delta Yacht 88 IPS bears design by Lars Modin. Besides employing carbon fiber for strength and weight savings, she bears efficient Volvo Penta IPS propulsion. IPS has been proven to burn upwards of 40 percent less fuel than traditional propulsion packages. Delta Powerboats says the Delta Yacht 88 IPS achieved the same results. She’s fitted with triple IPS 1200s. At 32 knots, the builder says, the Delta Yacht 88 IPS burns 87.2 gph (330 lph). At 20 knots, the figure is reportedly 44.9 gph (1,70 lph). Top speed on sea trials was said to be 37 knots.
The 20-foot-beam (6.2-meter-beam) Delta Yacht 88 IPS is a semi-custom model. The first 88’s interior, as seen here, features an open main deck. Owner-operators or buyers who enjoy their crew’s company may be drawn to this layout. There’s a decided lack of bulkheads separating the helm from the aft, though there are accommodations for two crewmembers. Owners and guests get four staterooms, including a full-beam master.
One Delta Powerboats model, a 54, is currently stateside. The 88 should be available for viewing in South Florida in the coming months.
