From concept to reality: The Mondo Marine M50, a proposal publicized initially in 2012 in conjunction with Hot Lab, is starting construction.
The 161-foot (49.2-meter) Mondo Marine M50 is an all-aluminum, four-deck megayacht. She incorporates a hull design from Mondo Marine’s in-house naval architects. It’s been proven on three previous deliveries. With twin MTUs, the Mondo Marine M50 should see a cruise speed of 17 knots. She should also enjoy a range of 3,500 nautical miles at 12 knots. Draft will be 7’5” (2.3 meters), complementary for a number of anchorages.
While the owner’s ideas for the interior have not been revealed, the hull color chosen hints at a distinct personality. Regardless of layout, the dimensions are in line with other megayachts accommodating a party of 12. The Mondo Marine M50 has a beam of 29’5” (9 meters), which is easy to imagine being put to good use in a full-beam master suite. It’s also easy to imagine the owner keeping the floor-to-ceiling main-deck windows from the initial concept. They’ll make the Mondo Marine M50 feel more airy.
Speaking of airy, if the owner preserved another suggestion from the initial idea, then the Mondo Marine M50 will have an indoor-outdoor main saloon and upper-deck saloon. The sliding doors were conceived to be fixed in an open position.
The Mondo Marine M50 is being built to ABS classification and a gross tonnage beneath 500. Delivery is set for early 2016. At that point, she’ll be one of about a dozen megayachts measuring more than 131 feet LOA (40 meters) delivered by the Italian brand within the past decade.
