The Italian Sea Group has been setting ambitious goals since new ownership acquired the Admiral and Tecnomar brands and brought them under one roof a few years ago. One example: expanding into sailing-yacht territory, with the Silent 76 being the first launch. A second sailing-superyacht series is now being promoted. It’s called the Admiral Sail Wave. The LOAs range from 125 feet (38 meters) to 197 feet (60 meters). The first offering will be the Admiral Sail Wave 38, the smallest of the series.
The Italian Sea Group wanted the Admiral Sail Wave series to appeal to the new breed of cruiser-racer owners. It also wanted the styling to be a bit different. To that point, note the mostly glass cockpit housing in the Admiral Sail Wave 38 rendering above. Also note the transom arrangement. These, and other design and naval architecture elements, are from Philippe Briand. Briand has collaborated with some of the leading sailing-yacht builders, of course, including Alloy Yachts, Perini Navi, and Royal Huisman.
The Admiral Sail Wave 38, like the rest of the series, will feature aluminum construction. She’ll also feature a carbon fiber mast and boom, plus in-boom furling. The Italian Sea Group does not mention the classification she’ll meet. However, it’s likely to be RINA Green Plus. The builder has made this voluntary environmental notation a must for all of its projects thus far.
The design brief for the Admiral Sail Wave 38 dictated things like head-turning lines, equally head-turning performance, an aft-deck terrace, a sheltered cockpit, and understandably comfortable spaces inside and out. “They wanted to build a sailing yacht that would be a beautiful holiday platform for family and friends,” Briand explains. He adds that the design brief summarized many owners’ desires but, to his knowledge, had yet to be fully realized on any 38-meter.
Briand’s team has therefore penned a bit beamier yacht, carried aft as well. This increases interior space plus bolsters performance. Inside, the Admiral Sail Wave 38 will situate the owner’s suite aft, with access to the aft “terrace,” as he calls it. The suite will be complemented by two guest staterooms. A third stateroom can instead be an office or extra cozy saloon. Four crew and a captain will further be accommodated.
While specific performance isn’t mentioned, Briand pledges she’ll be fast and “very responsive.” Guests wanting the wind in their hair can enjoy it from the cockpit. The glass hardtop will have a sliding bimini and retractable side windows. Alfresco dining will also take place in the cockpit, with sunning on the aft terrace.
