The Admiral brand of The Italian Sea Group is in the early engineering stages of a sailing superyacht being termed a Wave 38 model, pictured here. She’s designed by Philippe Briand, marking the first collaboration between the builder and the designer. The Wave 38 also marks the first Admiral Sail yacht to be entirely constructed of aluminum.
Even though The Italian Sea Group primarily builds motoryachts, Francesco Carbone, the vice chairman and sales director, says sailing superyachts have “interesting potential we cannot ignore.” You may remember that the yard already delivered one sailing yacht, Gigreca, in 2014.
The 124’7” (38-meter) Wave 38 won’t be delivered until 2018. She’ll have a sloop rig with a removable staysail, plus the features we’ve come to expect of modern sailing yachts. These include a carbon fiber mast and boom, and for creature comfort, a central cockpit shaded by a hardtop. That hardtop will also have a sliding sunroof, a nice touch, plus the cockpit can be enclosed by sliding glass. The Wave 38 will further be fitted with a lifting keel, though thus far no details have been provided on the draft. We also don’t have details on the Wave 38’s beam.
For now, The Italian Sea Group says the yacht will feature four guest staterooms and direct access from the owners’ suite to the open transom. Tenders and toys are to be stowed in a foredeck hatch. And, the above-mentioned central cockpit will be on the same level as the saloon.
While we await more details on this Wave 38, we’re also awaiting the same on additional Wave models. The Italian Sea Group says that the series includes a 48 and 60 (each named for the LOA in meters), designed by Briand as well.
