Countless songs have been recorded about the famed Route 66 stretching across the middle of America. Now a megayacht has been inspired by it. ISA Yachts is building a project it calls Route 66. Like the scenic highway, project Route 66 pledges to allow her buyers to indulge in the overall experience of travel without being walled up inside.
Route 66 borrows her hull form and styling from ISA Yachts’ Granturismo series, which includes the recently delivered Okto. That puts LOA at 217’9” (66.4 meters) and beam at 36’1” (11 meters). That also means there are four decks, with more alfresco space than is typical. While Okto has four decks, her sundeck does not extend as far aft as the one aboard Route 66.
Neither does Okto have a beach club quite like the one illustrated at top. Luxury Projects, an Italy-based design studio, suggests the buyers of project Route 66 make it a massive spa. Luxury Projects has previously designed the interiors for yachts like Koji, a Leopard, and Talal, a Tecnomar, both of which are much smaller than project Route 66. The extra space aboard the ISA Yachts megayacht means the spa can truly makes guests say “aaaah.” A lounge-like atmosphere can be front and center at the transom opening. Alternately, gym equipment can be set up here. Floating steps aft sweep guests up to the main deck. But they’d be remiss to skip spending time in the hammam, traditional sauna, and/or sensory shower.
Speaking of the senses, the visuals from the main deck should be equally enjoyable. The saloon rendering below reveals full-height, curving glass aft. For an indoor-outdoor experience, ISA Yachts intends the doors to remain open. Project Route 66 has more full-height glass flowing forward in the dining area. The eye-shaped glass fully forward designates the master suite. Five guest staterooms are situated below decks. The captain and crew get seven cabins, with two additional cabins for staff. Buyers still have time to customize the configuration and decor, since delivery is set for 2017.
Just as the original Route 66 stretched more than 2,000 miles, project Route 66 promises the buyers long-distance enjoyment. ISA Yachts says she’s capable of a 5,000-nautical-mile range at 15 knots. That’s a better pace than some other builders’ offerings. Twin Caterpillar power should also permit an 18½-knot top speed. The full-displacement yacht has a steel hull and should draw 9’5” (2.9 meters) at full load.
