Another mega-size megayacht will soon start construction. Icon Yachts is the latest to enter this arena, with what it says is a project exceeding 262 feet (80 meters) LOA. She marks the Dutch builder’s largest megayacht thus far.
Unfortunately, Icon Yachts is not yet revealing the design. (Pictured is Icon Yachts’ first delivery, the 223-foot, or 68-meter, Icon.) However, you can take an educated guess as to what part of the yacht will look like. It’s thanks to Tim Heywood’s involvement. Heywood, of course, is renowned for his signature styling.
Thankfully, Icon Yachts is revealing a few details about the megayacht, for delivery in 2017. For one, she’ll feature a tender-bay-turned-swimming-pool. The bay can be filled with salt water when the limo tender (LOA is not being publicized yet) is offloaded. That seems to imply that the tender will benefit from float-in and float-out operations. Regardless, the tender bay will also benefit from natural light from above. That’s due to a glass-bottomed, 26-foot-long (8-meter-long) pool atop it.
The total passenger capacity and cabin configurations are being kept close to the vest for now. Icon Yachts does say that the guests can head straight to the beach club from their accommodations. The owner has a nicely private suite, occupying much of the forward upper deck. Plentiful windows will provide 280-degree views of approaching harbors. For extra-private arrivals and departures, the owner can take advantage of a helicopter. The landing area will be situated on the foredeck.
Diesel-electric propulsion should permit a 17-knot top end for the project, too.
To put the 80-meter-plus megayacht into perspective, consider that Icon Yachts was established a few short years ago. It opened its doors in 2006. Icon, mentioned above, splashed in 2009. The shipyard has had the capacity to build larger, given a drydock measuring 130 meters long. Part of the drydock is currently occupied by the 241-foot (73.5-meter) converted icebreaker Giant, to be known as Legend following an extensive refit.
This isn’t the first time that Icon Yachts is collaborating with Tim Heywood. A 249-footer (76-meter) currently at the yard features his styling. She’s referred to as Icon 250 and should be completed by 2017, too.
