UPDATE, JULY 22, 2015: The 460EXP hit the water last week. Sanlorenzo terms the 460EXP an explorer due to her styling and long range. She has a house-forward design, much like commercial craft that venture out no matter the weather. That leaves the after portions of the 460EXP free for whatever watertoys an owner wants to take along. And with an expected 4,000-nautical-mile range at 11 knots, the 460EXP provides plenty of opportunity to play with those toys.
Here’s another look at her. Read on below for more details from our original story. We’ll have a Megayacht News Onboard feature about the 460EXP following her premiere at the Monaco show.
original text from June 2015:
The first steel-hulled Sanlorenzo—the yard’s first expedition-style yacht, too—is set for her global debut at the Monaco Yacht Show this September. She’s the Sanlorenzo 460EXP.
While launch photos are not yet ready, the rendering below gives you a good idea of how she’ll appear. The Sanlorenzo 460Exp was initially announced in 2012 as the 42EXP, for her LOA (42.2 meters, or about 138 feet). The name changed sometime after to emphasize her volume, 460 gross tons. To put her construction timeline into perspective, the then-recently joined, unfinished superstructure and hull were first floated in May 2014.
Sanlorenzo tapped Francesco Paszkowski to give the 460EXP a look reflective of long-distance, adventurous cruising. The yacht should see a 4,000-nautical-mile range at 11 knots, with twin Caterpillar power. The yard also wanted buyers to be able to pull into a variety of ports, not always anchor offshore. The 460EXP therefore has a draft of just 8’2” (2.5 meters). Remember, this is a steel-hulled yacht, so it’s unusually shallow.
Wherever they go, the owners and guests (10 to 12 total) have ample stowage for a flotilla of toys to accompany them. The tender garage can accommodate traditional PWCs and custom tenders, even a sportfisherman and dive gear. If more subdued activity is on order, the Sanlorenzo 460EXP has a spa and sauna (and bar, of course) in her beach club. Swimmers who prefer fresh water have a contra-flow pool at their disposal, on the main deck. It becomes usable once all the watertoys stowed there are offloaded.
Sanlorenzo started the 460EXP on spec and has been completing her to sell to an interested client. Buyers should note that the interior, from the main-deck owners’ suite to the below-decks guest staterooms, will feature mahogany and teak. Five guest staterooms are below decks, while the master is of course on the main deck. Sanlorenzo emphasizes that the crew’s quarters are ample and believes potential buyers will be impressed if comparing the yacht to similar-size projects.
