“Spin the boat on a sixpence.” That was among the requirements of the owner of Atalante in commissioning this sailing superyacht from Claasen Shipyards and Hoek Design. The first Truly Classic 127, she’s intended for regatta racing as much as nimble, comfortable cruising with family and friends.
Having owned a Truly Classic 90, Atalante’s owner is well-versed in the Truly Classic series’ performance promises and personalization process. The all-aluminum yacht has a deep-draft keel (draft is 14’8”, or 4.5 meters) and a thin foil for lower drag, for example. Combine that with North 3DI sails rising up the mast standing 158 feet (48.3 meters) above the waterline, and she’s expected to be a spirited competitor come race time. On cruises, while a captain is part of the full-time crew, the owner of Atalante plans to take the sizable wheel himself. He’ll be able to do so easily even if sitting on the edge of the cockpit.
The owner of Atalante was also attracted to the extra room afforded by this 127’3” (38.8-meter) design in comparison to his prior yacht. The added elbow room was as important for him and his guests as it was for his crew. In fact, the double crew cabin (in addition to the captain’s cabin) contains an en suite head. The captain’s office can double as an extra crew accommodation if needed, such as for racing. Even with the additional floor space, though, Atalante contains just two guest staterooms; the owner saw no reason to squeeze in more. Classically rich, warm mahogany wood, combined with equally classic, white-painted overheads and paneling above wainscots, characterizes the entire interior.
Enjoy this look aboard Atalante, from her teak-clad deckhouses to her cozy saloon.
