If you heard commotion coming from Ancona, Italy earlier today, it’s for good reason. Wider Yachts splashed its first-ever superyacht, the Wider 150.
Available for sale, the Wider 150 has been three years in the making. The sequence below, with photos from Wider’s Facebook page, shows the megayacht being moved out of her outfitting shed over the weekend and over to the launch ramp. She was lowered into the water today, where her diesel-electric propulsion system will be put through further tests. Final outfitting will take place in the water, too, with delivery set for later this year.
Diesel-electric power is a cornerstone of Wider’s philosophy. It plans to offer its all-aluminum megayachts from 125 to 165 feet (38 to 50 meters) with the package. Owners can, naturally, request traditional propulsion. But, but Wider believes that, in conjunction with azimuthing pods, the technology is ideal for those who prioritize fuel efficiency, range, maneuverability, and reduced sound and vibration, among other things. The Wider 150 is the first megayacht of her size range to incorporate diesel-electric propulsion, too.
It will be a few weeks before we can showcase the social areas of the Wider 150. They include an 807-square-foot (75-square-meter) owner’s suite. It includes a 43-square-foot (4-square-meter) “sea terrace,” as Wider terms it: a fold-down balcony. The beach club has three fold-down partitions, too. While aft and/or side openings have become quite trendy for megayachts, the Wider 150 was among the first designs to showcase the configuration. And, at 969 square feet (90 square meters), it’s apparently the biggest in the Wider 150’s side range, too.
