The Asia Superyacht Rendezvous got its start 15 years ago. It’s largely thanks to the owner of the sailing superyacht Yanneke Too. While cruising the region, he noted a few other yachts in a nearby bay and suggested they get together for a cruise. This continued for two to three years. Simultaneously, the number of visiting yachts increased, too. Eventually, the gathering became known as the Asia Superyacht Rendezvous. More significant, it’s become the largest superyacht-specific event in all of Asia.
While the name has changed, the emphasis has not. It’s all about showcasing the cruising grounds of Phuket and other nearby Asian waters. It’s further about letting owners and crew get to know the people of Thailand, in expectation they’ll want to come back.
This year, the Asia Superyacht Rendezvous was hosted at Kata Rocks, a real estate development. Featuring nearly three dozen waterfront villas, it’s situated in one of the most beautiful areas of Phuket. Owners and crew of sailing yachts and motoryachts alike mixed it up at evening events here, and out on the water.
This video, produced by the Phuket Gazette newspaper, gives you glimpses of some of those yachts, including Bliss and Lamima, both pictured above. You’ll also see one of the favorite evening events, the Feadship Challenge. Suffice it to say that this boatbuilding competition leaves participants breathless:
