Megayachts making their way around Central America have another dockage option: Placenia Marina, a soon-to-be finished location in Belize.
Placenia Marina says it’s the only marina in the country able to accommodate yachts to 225 feet (about 68.6 meters) and/or with an 11-foot (3.4-meter) draft. Twenty-five of its nearly 300 slips are for megayachts, too. Placenia Marina is in southern Belize, 10 miles by car north of the once-sleeping fishing village of Placenia. The region regularly attracts explorers of land and sea. Mayan ruins and rainforests are nearby, as are excellent fishing and dive spots. In fact, Placenia Marina is two nautical miles north of False Caye, poplar with snorkelers and kayakers.
Just before the new year, Placenia Marina installed full power to all slips. At press time, a fuel-dock installation was being completed. (A fuel truck had been supplying fuel to those in need.) Immigrations and customs clearances are already on site.
Placenia Marina is part of a resort that includes the Placenia Hotel. Marina guests therefore are given access to the hotel’s amenities. These include a pool, swim-up pool bar, dive shop, tour desk, spa, and concierge. As you’d expect of a resort, a variety of restaurants are on site. February will see a casino open, too. Private residences are additionally being built on the property.
Additionally of note, a private airstrip is being created. It will accommodate traditional private planes and aircraft as large as some of the biggest planes from Boeing and Airbus.
