Catamaran fans may recall the yacht WindQuest, built by JFA Yachts. The 85-footer (25.9-meter) is part of the French builder’s Long Island 85 series. She’ll soon have a sistership of sorts, in the form of a model the yard is calling S8 by Long Island.
The S8 by Long Island catamaran measures 86 feet (26.25 meters) LOA. She’ll look much like WindQuest in profile, adding an enclosable hardtop on the flying bridge. Isinglass panels will take care of protecting against cold temps or rainy weather. Naval architecture and interior design are by Marc Lombard, known for his sailing-yacht work.
An owners’ party of nine will cruise aboard the S8 by Long Island. The owners get quite a stand-out stateroom, spanning the 39-foot (11.93-meter) beam. They’ll also get a private alfresco area. Furthermore, the stateroom offers 180-degree views, truly unusual for any megayacht this size. Since children are part of the family, the S8 by Long Island has a three-bunk kids’ cabin, in the port hull. Another guest stateroom is in the same hull, along with the owners’ bath. The last guest stateroom is in the starboard hull, with the captain’s cabin and a crew cabin. The crew area further contains the galley and a mess.
The aluminum-hulled S8 by Long Island should draw a little over seven feet (2.24 meters). That means shallow waters will be accessible. The S8 by Long Island will additionally be aided by nearly 3,983 square feet (370 square meters) of upwind sail area and 5,220 square feet (485 square meters) of downwind sail area. Once at an anchorage, the crew can deploy a 16-foot tender, stowed aft of the cockpit.
Speaking of the cockpit, it should prove to be an ideal place to dine and catch some rays. It’s in proximity to an inside seating area and bar, plus an additional dining area.
JFA Yachts expects to deliver this catamaran in 2017.
