Cruisers wishing to travel the globe, visiting remote or environmentally sensitive regions, are the customers in mind for Arcana. The concept for the 125-footer (38-meter) is that of a true exploration yacht meant to leave a small “footprint.” Simultaneously, the yacht wraps her owners and guests in luxury from the outside in, deliberately departing from the rugged styling many explorers have.
Arcana comes from a trio of marine companies. The idea originated with Hansen Marine Exploration, a Singapore-based firm. It imagined a megayacht as capable of cruising the South Pacific as she would be of crossing the ocean. Arcana needed to be mindful of the environment, adhering to the strictest emissions standards. Sound and vibration control were equally important. Hansen Marine Exploration brought in Axis Group Yacht Design to develop the idea further. And, JFA Yachts came onboard as the builder.
To further be eco-minded, Arcana has a position-keeping system akin to Dynamic Positioning. It uses thrusters instead of anchors. She’s meant to meet RINA Green Plus classification, which has the toughest requirements in terms of environmental impact. Fuel-efficiency should come from a diesel-electric propulsion system, employing azimuthing propellers, too. At 10 knots, Arcana should see a range of 4,000 nautical miles. That brings plenty of far-flung shores into reach. Top speed should be 13 knots at half load.
As a true explorer, the steel-hulled Arcana has plentiful toys. The most prominent one is a three-person submarine, on the aft deck. The video below shows the unusual way in which it will launch. A hybrid-powered guest tender and two electric hydrofoils keep the eco idea going. Kayaks, dive gear, and more toys are available, too, for the owners’ party of 10 to 12 to enjoy. The ultimate buyers can customize the interior of the 28-foot-beam (8.5-meter-beam) boat.
JFA Yachts will have more details about Arcana at its stands during the Cannes Yachting Festival and Monaco Yacht Show. In the meantime, this animation shows what’s possible:
