Along the same vein as its previous expedition yachts like Axantha I, Axantha II, Bystander, and even the motorsailer Hortense, JFA Yachts has this 164 Explorer ready to build upon contract signing.
The 164’1” (50.03-meter) yacht makes the most of her waterline length. The latter comes in at 163 feet (49.69 meters). So, too, is there good elbowroom, given the 32’7” (9.97-meter) beam. The JFA Yachts 164 Explorer was developed with Dixon Yacht Design to be self-reliant, a true expedition yacht. (It’s worth noting that the above-mentioned JFA Yachts deliveries have each covered thousands of miles.) Anticipated best range is more than 4,800 nautical miles at 12 knots. Top end should be a little more than 16 knots. Twin 1,000-hp diesels will keep the pace for the all-aluminum JFA Yachts 164 Explorer. A good number of anchorages should be accessible, too. That’s because draft is 8’2” (2.5 meters).
The JFA Yachts 164 Explorer offers owners flexibility inside. Franck Darnet Design has proposals with either a main-deck or an upper-deck master. The latter is shown below. It’s aft, facing out over a private alfresco space. In either location, the master is full beam and can include an office.
Eight guests are treated to four staterooms below decks. The full owner’s party can enjoy a traditional saloon and dining area, plus a skylounge, aboard the 164 Explorer. A large, U-shape observation area is nestled against the forward portion of the wheelhouse. A nice touch, as you’ll see in the video, is the fold-down transom. It reveals cascading stairways sweeping down each side and to a large swim platform/watertoy boarding area. Your choice of toys go in side-by-side, forward lockers. JFA Yachts and Dixon Yacht Design can have the larger locker, for a 20-footer, double as a pool, too. If you prefer indoor workouts, there’s a gym on the lower deck.
The video for the JFA Yachts 164 Explorer also showcases the light-oak interior that Darnet envisions. This, of course, can be customized to your wishes.
