Known for now simply by her hull number, YN 18556, a project at Heesen Yachts completed the first step toward becoming a 184-footer. She’s a Heesen 56M Fast Displacement.
Heesen hosted the keel-laying ceremony, seen above, for the custom yacht on January 19. The shipyard is keeping most design details confidential, at least for now. This includes renderings of the profile and interior. However, the Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF) she employs is by Van Oossanen Naval Architects. A few Heesens to date have proven the design to be as efficient as it was intended. Van Oossanen created the hull form for yachts meant to have a relatively high speed as well as good efficiency at cruising speed. As we’ve explained previously, traditionally high-speed yachts tend to be far less efficient at cruising speed. The FDHF reduces resistance up to 20 percent. One of the most well-known, and recent, Heesens to feature the design is Galactica Super Nova.
Despite Heesen not divulging more information about the 56M Fast Displacement following the keel laying, we suspect styling is by H2 Yacht Design. We say this due to a brief statement in the autumn edition of its magazine, Heesen Journal. There, Heesen reveals it signed a contract for a 56M Fast Displacement project designed by the London-based studio. This is the first time the two companies are collaborating on a new build.
Furthermore, we may be able to glean some details about the new megayacht from a similar-size FDHF project available at Heesen. Project Alida is a 180-footer (55-meter) intended for a top speed of 16 knots. In addition, she should have a 4,500-nautical-mile range at 13 knots.
The steel-hulled 56M Fast Displacement is set for delivery in 2019.
