With a name like Antarctica, this yacht makes it clear she’s not for occasional cruises in the usual places. Originally known as Admiral Project 575, she’s in build at The Italian Sea Group. Furthermore, she can be yours next year.
In fact, she’s set for launch next February. Antarctica has a steel hull complying with Lloyd’s ice-class regulations, for exploring remote regions north of the usual yachting routes. She’ll have abundant range to get you there, too. The Italian Sea Group expects her to achieve 6,000 nautical miles at 14 knots. Propulsion comes from twin Caterpillars, further pushing her to a top speed of 16 knots. To use running parlance, Antarctica is a megayacht meant for a marathon, not a sprint.
Her rugged styling by Tim Heywood Design further conveys that concept. Simultaneously, though, it reflects luxurious travel. What proper explorer yacht would be complete unless she had a helipad? Antarctica has a true helipad, too, along with a hangar. Tenders and other watertoys stow below in side garages.
These, in turn, match well with the abundance of enjoyment, and comfort, set for inside. For instance, since Antarctica can cruise in cold climes, she has an enclosed observation lounge. It’s in a prime position, forward on the upper deck. You, your friends, and family can do plenty of observing aft, too. The formal dining area sits here, with floor-to-ceiling glass on three sides. In addition, when the weather isn’t too chilly, the glass panels slide away. You now have an open-air dining aerie.
You, as the owner, also get an abundance of privacy. Antarctica puts a spin on the main deck by making it the master deck. Except for a cinema forward, with its own entrance, the entire interior here is yours and yours alone. Unusually, it has two master staterooms, with one being full beam, and fully aft. (Beam is 42 feet, or 12.8 meters.) Five guest suites sit below decks, though particularly Very Important People get an upper-deck stateroom. It’s also aft, with a private alfresco lounge, too.
Famed interior design firm Fitz Interior is working with equally famous designer Tino Zervudachi to outfit all areas. Both gained fame with luxury residential architecture, but also design yachts.
Antarctica is listed for €85 million (about $95 million at press time) via Fraser Yachts.
