Superyacht concepts are getting more and more fantastical. At MegayachtNews.com, we’re all for pushing past current trends and striking out in new directions, within reason. “Reason” means that a concept needs to be realistic. If the designer can’t prove it’s possible to build, then we will not feature it on our website. We’ve seen too many owners fall in love with impossible-to-engineer designs over the decades (and, as a result, spend money they will never get back). Thankfully, the Se77antasette concept avoids that issue. Architect Fernando Romero received a direct invitation from Benetti to collaborate. What’s more, the in-house engineers at Benetti worked with the architect, and classification societies, to ensure her fantastical features were also feasible.
As we reported when the builder revealed Se77antasette last September, the driving factor was to forego conventional thinking and introduce essentially unseen deck arrangements. Just a quick glance at her profile lets you know you’re in for something different. The video takes a closer look at the details, all the way up to the glass dome covering her uppermost area. What you don’t get to see here is how that glass can become the “screen” for augmented-reality displays. Both Benetti and the designer assert the glass can withstand the physical stress of bearing weight and live up to displaying imagery without issue.
The 253-foot (77-meter) Se77antasette concept (pronounced “set-an-ta-set-ay,” the Italian word for “seventy-seven”) also has quite the surprises in store on lower decks. Notably, you’ll see the voluminous, multi-level atrium. It calls to mind a concert hall. An owner can certainly use it that way, too. Alternately, it can serve as a formal entertainment saloon, or a dance floor.
Enjoy the journey into imagination. Enjoy it all the more knowing that the Se77antasette concept need not remain a concept. Benetti says she can start construction on contract.
