This week marks the Versilia Yachting Rendez-Vous, an event in Italy created to promote Italian yacht builders and other Italian yachting companies. ISA Yachts is among the exhibitors, with an added reason to be glad it’s there. It’s displaying hull number one of the EXTRA 76. This new series should let the new generation of yacht buyers enjoy super-size superyacht amenities and experiences on a more manageable scale.
Measuring 79 feet (24 meters), with a beam of 22’3” (6.8 meters), the EXTRA 76 primarily catches your eye due to her expansive aft spaces. Few megayachts in this size range have as large an alfresco area, in fact. ISA Yachts and designer Francesco Guida strove for a strong feeling of being in the great outdoors. With 538 square feet (50 square meters) at your disposal here, split among three levels, it’s hard to not enjoy the atmosphere. The uppermost level, even with the rest of the main deck, contains a dining area. A large glass panel amidships forward of it slides down, too, connecting it to the galley. This unusual, but creative, arrangement makes for a more convivial atmosphere.
Also for outdoor enjoyment, the EXTRA 76 has a flying bridge. Dine, stretch out, or sun up here. Enjoy sundowners, too, thanks to the bar. And, you can enjoy seeing approaching shores come into view quickly over the captain’s shoulder, given a second helm station. As for how “quickly,” ISA Yachts says the megayacht can top out at 21 knots. Twin Volvo Penta IPS 1050s, quite efficient engines, provide propulsion. They consume less fuel than standard diesels do. They should also allow a range exceeding 700 nautical miles at cruising speeds. Further for efficiency, the EXTRA 76 taps solar power. Photovoltaic cells recharge a battery bank that powers lighting and other creature comforts at anchor.
Interior creature comforts include a full-beam owner’s stateroom, along with two twins and a VIP stateroom, all below deck. Dining indoors comes via an extending table in the saloon.
ISA Yachts plans to take this EXTRA 76 to the fall boat shows as well. First, though, the owner will spend the summer season aboard.
