Sanlorenzo’s expansion into explorer-style superyachts marked an important step this month. With 11 sales of this type on its books, it handed over KD (below), a 52 Steel, as well as a still-confidential 460Exp (above).
The Italian yacht builder introduced the 52 Steel series just a few years ago. In fact, the first delivery was Seven Sins, celebrated last year. Coincidentally, the owners of KD signed her contract the day before the yard launched Seven Sins. They benefited from a shorter delivery time because Sanlorenzo had started construction on spec. This therefore led to KD’s launch taking place in March of this year.
On a related note, KD represents the second of four contracts sold for the 52 Steel series so far. The 171-footer (52-meter) offers space for an owner’s party of 12, surely one reason why it catches attention. But, another big reason is the stern arrangement. A long, glass-bottomed pool runs the length of the aft deck. Directly below it, the beach club becomes light and bright. It additionally has this ambiance thanks to fold-down platforms on three sides. Furthermore, the 52 Steel’s beach club becomes a floodable garage, thanks to a sole that lifts up for the tender.
As for the 460Exp also now in her owners’ hands, unfortunately few facts are known. Sanlorenzo has not revealed the yacht’s name, for instance. The owners, however, may be from Europe. Regardless, the explorer-style superyacht is the fourth 460Exp delivered to date. The first three, you might remember, are (in order) Moka, X, and Ocean’s Four. Also notable, this fourth delivery is the seventh 460Exp contract to date.
The series gets its name from its volume, which is 460 gross tons. LOA for the 460Exp is 138’5” (42.2 meters). Buyers like the long, open aft deck, where plenty of toys can stay.
Sanlorenzo has several more megayachts, including explorer-style superyachts, under construction. The third 52 Steel is among them. She’s in build right alongside hull number one of the 64 Steel, in fact. That project should launch next year.
