She’s still a year from delivery, but the first-ever expedition yacht built by Sanlorenzo, the Sanlorenzo 460Exp, was floated on her lines this month. The project started as the 42Exp.
The “460” in Sanlorenzo 460Exp designates her gross tonnage. LOA is 138’5” (42.2 meters). Styling is by Francesco Paszkowski Design. Sanlorenzo wanted her to be large enough for 10 to 12 in the owner’s party yet small enough to maneuver in and out of marinas, intimate harbors, and more. Being an explorer, the Sanlorenzo 460Exp is engineered for long distances and self-sufficiency. Range is expected to be 4,000 nautical miles at 11 knots. Nearly 13,209 gallons (5,000 liters of fuel) are aboard. Power comes from twin Caterpillar C32 ACERTs. Future buyers can also select twin 8V 4000 M63 diesels from MTU. Since the Sanlorenzo 460Exp is being classed to RINA Green Plus, she’ll use batteries, not her gensets, at anchor.
Even with a steel displacement hull, the Sanlorenzo 460Exp has a relatively shallow draft. It’s just 8’2” (2.5 meters) at full load. The shipyard wanted buyers to be able to explore close to shore. Come delivery in August 2015, the owner of hull number one can also do so with a mini-armada of toys. The tender garage can house a variety of PWCs, tenders, sportfishermen, windsurfers, and more. A dive locker is also in here. The garage will serve double duty as a beach club, fitted with a bar and sauna, too. If a guest prefers fresh-water swimming, the Sanlorenzo 460Exp has a main-deck pool.
Another pool lies in a spa-like area below decks, near the guest staterooms. The spa further has a Turkish bath, sauna, and gym. Four crew cabins are further below decks, while the captain and owner are each on the main deck. The owner’s stateroom is full beam: 30’2”, or 9.2 meters.
The interior won’t be installed for several more months. However, this first Sanlorenzo 460Exp will showcase rich woods like teak and mahogany. It’s being customized according to the owner’s wishes.
