Hours ago, a record-breaking megayacht made her first public appearance. As you’ll see in the video below, Project 1007, all 361 feet (110 meters) of her, is now outside her build shed in Makkum, The Netherlands.
Project 1007 is record-breaking because she is the largest-ever yacht from Feadship. Built at the Royal De Vries shipyard, she knocks the previous title holder, Symphony, down from her short-held perch. Symphony, launched in 2015, is 333 feet (101.5 meters) long. While we got our first glimpse of Project 1007 in December 2016, she was still partially raw metal.
Project 1007 still has some work to go before her owner takes delivery. For instance, Feadship says her mast fitting takes place tomorrow. While watching the megayacht emerge from her shed, you can understand why the task will be done in open air. In fact, to put her height into perspective, replay the video and stop it around the 25-second mark. Then, take a close look at where Project 1007 stops and an overhead crane inside the shed begins. Even those of us who’ve seen dozens upon dozens of yacht launches over the decades were captivated.
That same moment in the video gives you a better look at a dramatic element of the megayacht’s styling. An eye-shaped surround encompasses two decks. Later on, you’ll see what appears to be a pool on the main aft deck, plus sweeping staircases leading up one level. Styling, and perhaps interior design as well, is from the UK design studio Michael Leach Design. This is the third Feadship for the design studio.
Unfortunately, Feadship has not yet revealed other facts about the megayacht. We therefore do not yet know if she will comply with the Passenger Yacht Code, like Symphony. (The Passenger Yacht Code governs pleasure vessels whose passenger capacity is between 12 and 36 guests.) The shipyard hints, however, that more information is forthcoming.
