One year from tomorrow, Baltic Yachts plans to start construction on a new bluewater cruising sloop. The Baltic 146 Custom, which is the moniker for now, will be the third-largest sailing superyacht by volume from the Finnish builder.
The 146-footer (44.6-meter) bears styling and naval architecture from a familiar design partner. Judel/Vrolijk & Co. is equipping the Baltic 146 Custom with a lifting keel. This will allow the sailing superyacht’s draft to go down to 11 feet (3.4 meters), from a maximum 19 feet (5.9 meters). In addition, the twin-rudder design has a forward-facing pulling propeller, powered by a 550-hp engine. That pulling propeller can rotate, therefore eliminating the need for the Baltic 146 Custom to feature a stern thruster.
Specifics on the sailplan and some other technical features are not yet available. Regardless, construction consists of advanced composites. Moreover, as Rolf Vrolijk of the design studio says, “This is a great opportunity to further develop the high-performance, multi-role superyacht for which our design studio and Baltic Yachts have become renowned.”
Bearing a 30’7” (9.35-meter) beam, the bluewater cruising will welcome an owner’s party of eight, attended to by seven crewmembers. The three guest staterooms, all doubles, place friends and family amidships as well as forward. All four crew cabins, as you might expect, sit aft. Relaxation areas also feature what you might expect, such as a commodious deck saloon, shaded by a bimini when needed, plus a tender bay on the foredeck.
Further details to come as construction begins. Delivery should take place in 2021.
