The Baltic 130 Custom is the latest high-performance sailing superyacht for Baltic Yachts. This 129’9” (39.6-meter) yacht starts construction next month, for delivery in 2016. At that point, the Baltic 130 Custom will be one of about a dozen fully custom projects exceeding 100 feet LOA from the yard.
Like previous builds, the Baltic 130 Custom will feature carbon-composite construction. It’s in keeping with Baltic Yachts’ founding philosophy. Light, fast, and strong yachts have been the focus since 1973. Light displacement was an unusual notion at the time. Heavy displacement, meaning a deeper and rounder hull shape, was widely preferred. Baltic Yachts believed that light to medium displacement could coexist with strength, safety, and comfort on deck and in the accommodations. This required researching higher-tech construction materials and processes.
The Baltic 130 Custom bears styling and interior design by Nauta Yachts. Reichel Pugh Yacht Design is responsible for the hull design. The Baltic 130 Custom, with a 28’2” (8.6-meter) beam, has a plumb bow, with the lines widening aft. Maximum draft is 22”10” (7 meters), though a lifting keel will allow flexibility of cruising grounds. The propulsion system will also be retractable.
Graced with a beam of 28’2” (8.6 meters), the Baltic 130 Custom will be both a cruiser and a racer. The owner is already a seasoned regatta sailor. The flush deck is among the features he requested as a result. For entertaining, the Baltic 130 Custom will have two guest staterooms and a formal saloon. Three crew cabins will also be aboard.
While it will be nearly two years before the Baltic 130 Custom joins the nine other 100-foot-plus custom megayachts from Baltic Yachts, she’ll be in good company. Baltic Yachts is currently finishing a 108- and 116-footer, for delivery this year. Work also continues on 115- and 175-footers. Then there’s a refit, the Wally Nariida, which arrived last winter.
