While the dozens of megayachts that premiere at the Monaco Yacht Show (MYS) each year earn accolades from visitors, they earn praise in a different way as well. The show organizers single out a handful for special honors, specific to design and environmental stewardship. The sixth-annual edition of the show’s Superyacht Awards Ceremony will specifically single out four among more than 40 world premieres.
The awards are handed out as part of the show’s Inaugural Gala. Held on September 24, the day before the show starts, the invitation-only gala brings together VIP guests, some of whom include owners. The guests further include yachting industry CEOs. As for the Superyacht Awards Ceremony, a panel of yachting journalists reviews details on the projects making their debut, and then the final selection for each award.
The four categories are:
- MYS/RINA Award. RINA, the Italian classification society, has been a leader in recognizing environmental sensitivity. Therefore, it sets out a series of performance specifications that the judges use to determine which yacht receives this eco-friendly honor.
- MYS Interior Design Award. Since every superyacht shows off a luxury interior, this surely is a tough category. Regardless, judging criteria include not just aesthetics, but also well-executed comfort.
- MYS Exterior Design Award. The Superyacht Awards Ceremony recognizes a yacht whose styling is truly innovative.
- MYS Finest New Superyacht Award. Finally, this goes to the yacht which best embraces all of the above categories.
