In 1991, an extraordinarily large yacht by the standards of the time saw delivery in Europe, from Amels. Katamarino measured 184 feet (56.2 meters), springing from the drawing boards of the late Jack Hargrave. Little could the naval architect imagine that 28 years later, a larger superyacht would launch from a shipyard bearing his name. Thanks to Hargrave Custom Yachts and the crew of Baba’s, we’re the first to reveal this video.
The 186-foot (56.69 meters) Baba’s saw construction in Turkey at HSY. The HSY facility is not new to yachting, having previously been operated as Sunrise Yachts. As for HSY, the acronym stands for Hargrave Super Yachts. The owner of Baba’s, a four-time Hargrave customer, played a large role in selecting craftspeople to work on the project. The size, as well as the steel and aluminum construction, exceeded the capacities of the primary Hargrave shipyard in Taiwan.
While the video of Baba’s does not take you inside the 24-foot-beam (10.4-meter-beam) yacht, you do get to see alfresco lounging and dining areas. These, as well as the six staterooms, including an upper-deck VIP, and detailed mosaics all came from the owner collaborating with Turkey-based Unique Yacht Design. The same design studio handled styling for the project.
We’ll have a Megayacht News Onboard feature of Baba’s (whose name is a term of endearment) in the coming weeks.
