Typically, yacht owners want to avoid lightning. Riva aims to change their mind with the 88 Folgore, whose name translates to thunderbolt. The new megayacht is part of Riva’s Sportfly lineup. In fact, she is the largest current model in that series.
Similar to other yachts from the builder, like the Riva 88 Florida, which is part of the Open series, the 88 Folgore shows off sporty, flashy style. In fact, the in-house design and engineering departments, in conjunction with Officina Italiana Design, took inspiration from the automotive world. (The 26-year-old design studio is responsible for the exterior looks of all the modern Rivas.) Also in Riva tradition, the 88 Folgore combines modern design materials like carbon fiber with classic ones like mahogany.
Eight people in the owners’ party have four staterooms to choose from onboard, including a VIP and two doubles. Interestingly, Riva has three different layouts for owners to review for their master suite. The shipyard has not revealed, however, what hull number one’s configuration entails, nor what the other two options do different.
Regardless, because the Sportfly series appeals to buyers who enjoy afternoons at anchor, the 88 Folgore provides open-air choices throughout the yacht. For instance, the glass-wrapped uppermost deck transforms into an open flying bridge. The hardtop pivots both fore and aft to make it happen. Additionally, Riva says the hardtop can remain pivoted while the megayacht is underway.
Choices await for the beach club and tender garage, too. The transom door swings open to rest in two different ways, depending on what you plan to do. For example, if you just want to launch the tender to head ashore, the door opens and lowers into the water. But, when the tender is away, you can use the interior area as a beach club, a cozy 65 square feet (6 square meters). For this, the door can sit right above the water.
Expect to see the first 88 Folgore, with interior accents ranging from wood to marble and steel, cruising the Med this summer.
