While a number of spec builds are under construction or about to begin, few feature steel hulls. Moonen Yachts is staying true to its heritage of long-range steel cruisers with the Moonen 110. Since steel cutting starts in June, interested buyers can truly customize the megayacht well before delivery in 2023.
The Moonen 110, initially a concept, features naval architecture and engineering from Diana Yacht Design, a longtime partner for the shipyard. Yet another Dutch design firm, René van der Velden, is responsible for styling, blending classic looks like the flared bow and more contemporary looks like the eye-shaped window openings as well as subtly sculpted edges. Additionally, despite being three decks high, the yacht looks relatively low-profile, thanks to the design details.
Also known as Moonen YN202, this Moonen 110 actually measures 111 feet (33.87 meters), with a 24’6” (7.5-meter) beam. The dimensions lend themselves well to a volume of 256 gross tons, and a layout for an owners’ party of eight. Surely, you’ll want to reserve the forward portion of the main deck for your master suite. This provides a healthy, full-beam VIP below decks, along with two side-by-side guest cabins with twins or queens. Additionally, floor-to-ceiling windows on the main deck can make your formal dining area a more attractive area to gather together. Again, since the yacht is for sale, you have free reign to design the area as you wish with the designer of your choice.
In keeping with long-range cruising, the Moonen 110 should see a best range of 3,300 nautical miles at 9 knots. The twin Caterpillar engines further should allow a cruising speed of 10 knots and top end of 13 knots. You and your crew of five, accommodated in two crew cabins and the captain’s cabin, can plan your adventures accordingly.
