This vessel may remind you of a military vessel. And you’d be right. An unusual request from a yachting customer has led to the signing of O.P.V. 56, a 184-footer (56-meter), at Antonini Navi.
Over the course of several months, the shipyard’s technical office and designer Fulvio De Simoni created the desired look and feel. Specifically, the owner wanted serious, even austere lines and a decidedly militaristic overall appearance. Just as naval ships leave no doubt as to their purpose, she, too, would leave no doubt. Furthermore, safe navigation in blue water, with no superfluous features, were crucial. Even her name conveys this. O.P.V. 56 stands for Offshore Patrol Vessel.
De Simoni penned a high bow for the yacht, to take on big seas. The rest of O.P.V. 56 reflects how she prioritizes purpose as well. The long foredeck, for example, is for a helipad. “At sea, simplicity is an added value,” De Simoni explains, adding that experienced cruisers like this owner appreciate easy-to-use spaces. “This mature and substantial vessel reflects the values embraced by Antonini Navi,” he continues, given its background in commercial construction.
Few details are public, unfortunately. For now, however, the shipyard says that O.P.V. 56 reserves the upper deck as the owner’s suite. A hot tub nestles into the forward bulkhead, with space for sun lounges to each side. More sunning and lounging area is aft on this same deck. Additionally, the main aft deck offers about 1,615 square feet (150 square meters) for a variety of relaxing activities. Loose furnishings can be cleared by the crew for cocktail parties, for instance, or left to enjoy by the swimming pool. Finally, the topmost deck should be a favorite place for the owner and guests, due to the all-around views. Importantly, the height lends privacy whether they sit forward or at the bar aft.
Equally important, O.P.V. 56 is a big achievement for the shipyard. “We are very pleased with such a concrete expression of interest just 10 months after the shipyard’s debut in the world of superyachts,” says Aldo Manna, Antonini Navi’s partner and sales director. Projects like O.P.V. 56 and the Antonini Navi UP40, which started construction last fall, highlight its focus on both in-house-generated ideas as well as fully custom yachts, he asserts.
