Grande in Italian means huge. In an era of so-called gigayachts booming, speaking of very large yachts sometimes is rather reductive. But when a yacht boasts new design solutions that impressively dilate space and create new areas, she guarantees the wow effect, especially if we’re talking about a 125-footer (38.2-meter). That is exactly what happens when you step onboard the Grande Trideck, the largest unit of Azimut Yachts.
The Grande Trideck welcomes guests with a central royal staircase, which connects her lowest level to a half-raised Sea View Terrace (below). This is an all-new space aft, which transforms the Trideck into a Trideck Plus One yacht. Alberto Mancini, responsible for exterior design, worked closely with the shipyard to give the yacht a cascading effect over four terraces, from the sundeck down to the water’s edge. Of course, this new solution reinvents the entire spaces onboard. The result is a layout meeting the requirements of contemporary owners, who want a less-formal lifestyle and closer contact with the sea.
Indeed, the Sea View Terrace is an entertaining area offering the feeling of being suspended in air. “It’s a 30-sqare-meter social area in the sun just above the waves that enhances the aft of the yacht, as well as creates a beach club with 2 meters height and a cockpit with exceptional privacy,” Mancini says. (For reference, 30 square meters is 323 square feet, and 2 meters is 6’6”.) He continues, “It completes the effect of cascading terraces, connecting guests at every level and fostering a uniquely fun aft-deck experience.” At anchor, the transom opens to expand the area and connect guests directly with the water.
The third terrace is the main outdoor dining area (above), aft on the upper deck. Completing the casual feel, a handcrafted natural-teak and white-lacquered table joins corner sofas for aperitifs. The sun deck, meanwhile, offers a magnificent view of the nature all around. In addition to all these open areas, a few steps below the Sea View Terrace, the cockpit becomes a private patio, a protected and reserved living area perfect for eating or lounging. It is the natural extension of the main saloon.
Indeed, the Grande Trideck interiors are opened and integrated with the external areas, to become extensions of one another. Spaces and furnishings are by Achille Salvagni, as with the other models in the Grande collection. Salvagni carried out a functional rethinking of interior spaces. The atmosphere everywhere is soft and calm. Significantly, Salvagni has designed every single piece of furniture onboard, removing the superfluous and transforming every living area in an ambience of wellbeing. Take, for example, the saloon. Floor-to-ceiling windows allow natural light to filter softly inside. This adds beautiful shade to the soft colors of the fabrics and the walls, livened by glossy mahogany inserts. The heart of the space is the large enveloping sofa with soft and seductive lines. Noteworthy are the circular elements embedded in the ceiling, which recall lunar craters.
Flexibility is another feature of Grande Trideck. The formal dining area is on the upper deck (above) in continuum with a multipurpose area. That area is an intimate nook, with a huge, cozy sofa and convertible table. Versatility also comes in the accommodation layout. The first hulls feature a sixth VIP cabin on the upper deck with a spectacular sea view. On the lower deck, two VIPs are aft, and two other guest cabins sit forward. The owner’s suite, forward on the main deck, is a spectacular full-beam space with large windows. Interestingly, the bathroom is a natural extension. It’s actually a wellness area, centered around a large, freestanding tub, a beautiful design element that captures the attention.
As for performance, the Grande Trideck delivers impressive figures due to being the newest member of the Carbon Generation. Since her entire superstructure is carbon fiber, weight reduction is 6 tons. The first model under test, with twin 2,600-hp MTUs, recorded a maximum speed of 24 knots and a cruising speed of 12 knots. Further, she pledge an autonomous range upwards of 1,700 miles.
