It’s rare to find a shipyard still employing cold-molded construction, but that’s par for the course for Vicem. The Turkey-based builder has delivered hull number one of its Vicem 82 series, a fully custom yacht, too.
In keeping with Vicem tradition, the Vicem 82 resembles a Downeast-style yacht, with a flying bridge. The owner was attracted to that look, wishing it to envelop a cruising-focused purpose with, of course, luxury finishes. Notably, too, the owner can take the wheel, or have a small crew handle operations. Specifically, navigation duties can take place from the primary helm in the open-plan main deck saloon or from the alfresco helm on the flying bridge. Either way, driving can be a social affair for guests, since settees are near both. In fact, a wine chiller is beneath the primary helm and therefore within reach of the adjacent seating area. The flying bridge, meanwhile, contains a U-shape settee and entertainment area, along with a grill. Guests who want a better front-row seat to approaching shores, though, can settle in on the settee at the bow.
Since the owner plans on entertaining a number of friends and family, the Vicem 82 can accommodate a crowd. Specifically, the shipyard says easily 20 people can spread out across the settees in the saloon and just outside on the main aft deck. For overnights, meanwhile, just three staterooms, including the master, are onboard. The two guest staterooms contain walkaround queen berths. Of course, the master spans the full beam, which is 20’4” (6.19 meters), further containing a seating area.

From the staterooms to the social areas, the Vicem 82 shows off classically appealing, book-matched mahogany paneling. For cleanup convenience, the galley (top)—a few steps down from the saloon, but open to it—incorporates Corian surfaces. The chef and other crewmembers have a dedicated passage to their cabins as well. Plus, a Garmin monitoring system lets them keep watch on the yacht’s systems. It matches the displays at the primary helm.
Sea trials confirmed a top speed just shy of 18 knots and a 15-knot cruising speed. The twin 900-hp Volvo Penta engines further should make a 1,100-nautical-mile range at 9 knots possible.
The owner of this first delivery is based in Europe. Speaking of which, the yacht will be on display at the Cannes Yachting Festival this September.
