Since the FD Series’ debut in 2016, Horizon Yachts has sold dozens to customers throughout the United States and around the world. To wit, hull number 25 in the Horizon FD90 series recently launched. She’s for cruisers intent on enjoying Australian waters.
While the megayacht being hull 25 is notable itself, Mark Western, the director of Horizon Yacht Australia, points out something else. “Horizon Yachts has seen record sales in the Australian market in the last year,” he says. Additionally, he notes, this project meets survey requirements from the Australian Maritime Safety Authority allowing her to charter if the owners so choose.
Regardless of undertaking private or charter trips, this Horizon FD90 has a five-stateroom layout—with four queen guest staterooms, no less. She has a light decor, too, to amplify her volume. In the saloon (top), for instance, water-bleached walnut and tinted Koto wood (from Africa) set the scene. Underfoot, meanwhile, oak planks—in a herringbone pattern—continue to keep the feeling light and bright. Contrasting accents include matte-black hardware. Adding a few elements of elegance, the owners chose a brass and crystal light fixture above the 10-person dining table. Similarly, stardust-patterned, backlit mullions accentuate the dining area.
When it comes to relaxation and entertaining, this Horizon FD90 definitely delivers. For example, a custom wine cabinet sits directly inside the saloon from the aft-deck glass doors. It’s perfect for guests who are taking in the views from the aft-facing saloon settee, or for pre-dinner cocktails outside on the aft deck. Notably, the aft deck has a hi-lo table purposely to cater to cocktails, plus to be the perennially popular breakfast nook.
If the owners opt for more formal meal with friends and family, a privacy screen closes off the galley’s pass-through. Like other Horizon FD Series owners who enjoy more casual cruising, though, they and the crew can keep it open. This allows the counter to be more like a breakfast or snacks bar.
Because she has an enclosed skylounge, this Horizon FD90 is what the shipyard calls its Skyline configuration. Interestingly, since Horizon offers abundant ways to customize the layout, these owners took advantage. A dayhead is up here, as is a seating area that converts to a berth. Yet another bar, with three barstools, complements the seating area, which also has hi-lo tables for flexibility. The helm area, with three pedestal seats, is open to the skylounge as well.
Finally, alfresco amenities range from a hot tub with adjoining bar counter on the upper deck to a bimini-shaded foredeck lounge.
Hull 25 will land in Australia later this month. VIPs will get to see her at a special unveiling event at Sanctuary Cove.
