With a 1-to-1 guest-to-crew ratio, hull number one in the Sanlorenzo 57 Steel yacht series is in the water. The launch (photos not yet available) took place within the last few days at Sanlorenzo’s Superyacht Division site in La Spezia, Italy.
With construction starting in 2021, the five-deck yacht has abundant volume, 1,050 gross tons. Zuccon International Project, responsible for exterior styling, had a challenge on its hands due to this. The dimensions make the steel superyacht its largest-ever design. Bernardo Zuccon, head of the studio, says the goal was to incorporate operational and lifestyle amenities akin to larger yachts. He adds that simultaneously, the studio needed to keep her looking properly balanced, and properly like a Sanlorenzo. “There is no ostentation of the brand,” he comments.
With accommodations for 12 in the full owners’ party and 12 crewmembers, the Sanlorenzo 57 Steel yacht shakes up conventional general arrangements. Typically, for instance, the wheelhouse is on the upper deck, directly above the main deck. That isn’t the case, though, aboard this series. Instead, it’s up an additional level. This is one of the ways that the design strives to borrow features from bigger boats. Yet another result of the move: allowing the upper deck to be an owners’ deck. The sleeping area overlooks approaching shores forward, further having private alfresco spaces.
Additionally, the owner of this steel superyacht requested a full-beam VIP suite forward on the main deck. It, too, faces forward, to benefit from the views. The rest of the guest staterooms are below decks. John Vickers, head of interior-design firm Studio Vickers, says it was a pleasure working with the owner, who’s an experienced cruiser, and his family to execute a warm, welcoming, and detailed décor. “We have worked with Sanlorenzo before and know the care and attention to detail, but on this yacht, it was exceptional,” he adds.
Among the areas everyone can enjoy together are the beach club and the aft-deck pool. The pool, by the way, has a glass bottom, filtering light down into the beach club. When they want to play on watertoys, the crew can launch them from the dedicated tender bay in the bow. Speaking of the crew, they have an entire level beneath the lower deck for refrigerating provisions, stowing other necessities, and more.
The shipyard will conduct sea trials in the coming weeks, to confirm the expected top speed of 16½ knots under Caterpillar power. On a related note, the series is available with diesel-electric propulsion, too.
Three more Sanlorenzo 57 Steel yacht contracts are in various stage of construction. Hull number one. Meanwhile, is remaining in La Spezia for final outfitting before delivery next year.
