Luxury and good design are visible from different angles. We had the privileged to enjoy the best one while arriving via tender to the magnificent stern platform of the Custom Line 140 yacht. The new brand flagship is a “union of past and future,” according to her designer, Francesco Paszkowski. She maintains Custom Line traditions like ample usable alfresco space. Simultaneously, Paszkowski’s studio instills “new stylistic cues from other design universes, such as automotive and residential architecture, in line with the nowadays trends of contemporary living.”

The 140-footer (42.61-meter), with a 28-foot (8.54-meter) beam, is Francesco Paszkowski Design’s third collaboration with the shipyard. The studio took care of both exterior and interior design, the latter with Margherita Casprini and the Custom Line Atelier. She uses carbon composite construction to keep the weight and the draft low. “Custom Line 140, and in general the planing line of the brand, is appreciated above all by the American market for her high performance and reduced draft, which allows her to cruise even in shallow waters,” comments Stefano de Vivo, Ferretti Group’s CCO. She can make relatively quick work of those waters, too. Her top speed is 21½ knots, and her cruising speed is 18 knots with twin MTU engines.

Of course, the first thing buyers notice about the superyacht is her sporty character. Details like painted aluminum handrails with Y-shaped uprights enhance the looks. Despite her dimensions, this 140-footer has a volume of 398 GT. Here’s where the union of past and future come together. She allows owners of smaller yachts to grow with the brand, plus interprets the yachting trend of creating floating villas and lofts to live in at sea. In fact, she presents spaces spread over four decks, rarely seen in this size. Interiors extend over 3,223 square feet (300 square meters). Alfresco areas, meanwhile, offer 2,153 square feet (200 square meters) of socializing space. And, appreciated by owners in this size range, guests’ zones are separate from those of the crew.

The ceiling heights of nearly seven feet (2.1 meters) and giant windows contribute to the feeling of volume. The main saloon (above) and skylounge (below) reveal it especially well, additionally connecting with exterior terraces. Natural light floods everywhere, enhancing details. The interiors are elegant yet cozy, with neutral and natural tones for a relaxing atmosphere. The palette of materials ranges from ivory-hued leather to dark oak parquet soles. Of note, diamond-cut leather finishes the main saloon’s ceiling and upholsters furnishings. Mirrors are everywhere as well, to enlarge spaces and beautifully reflect the sea.

Since the Custom Line 140 yacht series is semi-custom, owners can choose the interiors. Note, too, the ability to select some pieces of furniture from the catalog of the Italian brand Minotti. Available for both the inside and outdoor areas, they accentuate the ambience of an elegant seaside house.

Reminders are throughout the yacht of the intention to avoid creating visual barriers. The floating staircase in the central lobby is a good example, further standing out like a work of art. Intimate and elegant, the 47-square-foot (44-square-meter), full-beam owners’ suite has a private balcony. It opens with a simple hydraulic mechanism. The skill of Custom Line’s craftspeople is revealed by the light-colored, ribbed wood paneling on a mirrored backing.

The owners and guests (who get three VIP cabins and a twin cabin below decks) live in contact with nature particularly on the upper deck. It has two distinct, multifunctional areas. Forward is a spacious living area with comfortable seating, tables, and sunbathing areas. Aft, meanwhile, you’ll find a lounge area and a dining area directly connecting with the panoramic sky lounge. Uniquely special, though, the sundeck (below) stands out for its sheer space. More than 753 square feet (70 square meters) of space splits into three zones.

Ultimately, the Custom Line 140 yacht series allows the brand to attract owners seeking solutions larger than 30 meters (98 feet), and keep them in the fold. She does it with good volumes and a combination of seemingly disparate design influences that is actually quite harmonious.
