Though her official launch is still months away, hull number one in the Bilgin 170 yacht series slipped outside yesterday. She transferred to her outfitting shed at Turkey’s Bilgin Yachts, providing initial glimpses of a range the shipyard believes will be as successful as its larger megayachts.
“Ensuring familiarity and ease of use for customers,” according to Emrecan Özgün of Unique Yacht Design, the 171-footer (52-meter) actually bears similarities to a smaller project. Specifically, the Bilgin 163, with styling by Unique Yacht Design and interiors by Hot Lab, was the basis. The same studios joined with the shipyard to develop this bigger boat with some of her own attractions, too, of course. For example, among the staterooms for a party of 12, the master suite is on the bridge deck. The sundeck, meanwhile, reportedly is one of the most ample aboard similar-size superyachts. It needs to be, considering the hot tub can welcome eight people, near a dining area for 12 and a bar.
Additionally, the bigger spaces include the alfresco area on the bridge deck. Here, the Bilgin 170 provides five more feet (1.5 meters) than the 163 had. Although it may not seem significantly bigger, the beach club offers a meaningful difference, too. It has windows in each of its three opening platforms. This therefore lets owners and guests use it fully enclosed, instead of only as an open-air lounge.
Finally, a larger, less-flared bow offers more space for the rescue tender and watertoys, plus for the crew to go about their duties.
Overall, “The primary goal during the design process was to optimize the 50-meter models,” Özgün says. Aesthetically, this creates “a more sporty and masculine look,” he continues. Simultaneously, it gives clients “the ability to utilize both open and enclosed spaces under 500 gross tons.”
Delivery of the first Bilgin 170 takes place by the end of this year. Meanwhile, a second hull is in build, set for delivery in early 2025.
