Although the structural and mechanical work on the owners’ wish list is complete, the yacht Sofia 3 still has a ways to go before being back in their hands. She’s entered the interior-outfitting stage at the Lusben yard in Italy.
A Baglietto delivery from 2007, Sofia 3 has actually undergone significant changes at the Viareggio-based shipyard. She’s transformed over several years, too. In fact, this visit is her third time there. Initially, the owners sent the 140-footer (42.75-meter) in 2018 for a stern extension, plus a fold-out transformer platform installation. Following some time cruising in U.S. waters, the owners sent her to Lusben in 2022 for more work. The original seven-month stay lasted a bit longer because the owners added a few undisclosed upgrades to the punch list.
This third visit has seen multiple changes take place. For instance, the owners wanted layout changes out on deck. This includes creating both a new seating area for and laying new teak on the sundeck. Overall, the reconfigured space, fully forward, looks better and will function better according to the owners. The owners also requested a few structural areas undergo refurbishing. This included replacing some metal plates (the yacht has a steel hull and aluminum superstructure) suffering from corrosion or water intrusion. Lusben swapped out mechanical systems as well, along with most of the windows. A new coat of grey paint now covers the megayacht’s hull and superstructure.
Having lowered the yacht Sofia 3 into the water for her technical launch, Lusben has now moved on to the interior. A fellow Viareggio-based company, the design studio La Mandragola, is adding its touch as per the owners’ request. Details are not yet available.
Complex refits along the lines of that of Sofia 3 are not new to Lusben. For example, it had Maltese Falcon in for a refit for six months last year.
