Attitude is everything, according to an old adage. It holds true not only in the name of the yacht Attitude, but also the approach by the design studio Luxury Projects. As studio founder Laura Pomponi says, “We believe that luxury and sustainability can co-exist.”
The 116-foot (35.5-meter) motoryacht, nearing completion at the Seven Stars Marina and Shipyard in Italy, is remarkable for a few reasons. Firstly, she’s hull number 14 in the Amer 120 semi-custom series. (Amer Yachts has a relationship with Seven Stars dating back several years, to handle construction for a few of its models.) Secondly, the Amer 120 became the largest yacht to employ Volvo Penta’s IPS propulsion system when it premiered. The system consumes about 30 percent less fuel and emits 30 percent fewer emissions than traditional shaft propulsion. In addition, it creates about 50 percent less noise, and boosts range by about 40 percent. On a related side note, the shipyard has been exploring sustainable alternatives to fiberglass, such as Filava, a volcanic rock fiber.
Luxury Projects naturally custom designed a number of features for the owners of the yacht Attitude. For instance, what appears to be a multi-functional bar and cooking area is a whole lot more. The countertop, including a barbecue, can retract and turn into a DJ console for parties. The studio additionally custom designed a huge C-shaped settee in the saloon. Pomponi credits the owners’ “exceptional vision, impeccable taste, and keen eye for color and detail” with allowing the yacht Attitude to convey a special attitude.
Purposely to be more environmentally responsible, several sustainable and renewable materials figure prominently. For instance, Sicis glass slabs are in the master suite and characterize much of the overall décor, replacing marble. Glass is recyclable, plus Sicis has had several of its products undergo testing to comply with certifications from LEED and other organizations. Additionally, SIcis Vetrite—large glass slabs—forms rhombus patterns overhead in each guest stateroom. Finally, marble powder recycled from processing marble slabs is in wallpaper onboard.
From the lighting design, including a custom chandelier in the dining area, to each tone in each room, Luxury Projects considered how to be more environmentally mindful. Simultaneously, the studio sought to lend personality to each room, in keeping with the owners’ penchant for color. Bold oranges, deep ochres, pretty pinks, and cool blues catch the eye.
“At Luxury Projects, we believe that each yacht we create tells a story,” Pomponi explains. With Attitude, that story is about happiness and hospitality, she continues, for the owners and their friends to write together. The yacht further isn’t solely a vessel, Pomponi says. Instead, she’s an embodiment of a way of life, in more ways than one. “Attitude is not only a vessel of beauty but also an example of more responsible yachting,” Pomponi declares.
