The latest series in Columbus Yachts’ Crossover range confirms interest in long-range yachts with lots of deck space for toys or relaxation, or both. In fact, hull number one in the Columbus Crossover 47 yacht series already has a buyer.
Columbus Yachts created the Crossover range a few years ago. They span several sizes, but all have a common look and purpose. Specifically, the yachts impart an intrepid spirit, emphasizing angular lines over soft, curvy lines. The engineering matches well with this spirit. Each Crossover is capable of covering long distances and carrying some big toys on an equally long aft deck. Owners can stow several big tenders on deck, for exploring anchorages or just having fun. Then, they can open up extra space for their guests to lounge when the toys are in the water.
A European buyer was attracted to the new series, which draws largely on another Crossover, the Columbus Crossover 42 yacht (below). Hull number one of that series is under construction, in fact, for an American owner and set to splash next year. The new 154-footer (47-meter) shares some of the naval architecture of the smaller series, thanks to Columbus Yachts’ in-house team collaborating with Hydro Tec. A bulbous bow for better seakeeping plus a full-displacement hull are two notable benefits. So, too, is an anticipated range of 5,000 nautical miles at 10 knots under Caterpillar power. Top speed, meanwhile, should be around 15 knots.
Although the specific tender the owner wants isn’t public knowledge, Columbus Yachts says the aft deck can hold a 6,600-pound (3,000-kilogram) boat. Fold-down sides make launching it easier, via a crane built into the deck above. Those same foldable sections make the Columbus Crossover 47 yacht’s deck look and feel more open as well when guests are relaxing. They have a hot tub and sunning spaces already waiting, but the extra deck space suits flexible needs.
The steel-and-aluminum Columbus Crossover 47 yacht series is for clients to personalize throughout. The owner of hull number one is working with Hot Lab for the accommodations for 12. Of course, the master suite occupies a prime spot on the main deck, further extending the full beam. (The beam is 28 feet, or 8.6 meters.) Two of the four guest staterooms below decks have twin beds, along with a pullman.
Wisely, the captain has a private cabin adjacent to the wheelhouse on the upper deck. Four cabins below decks take care of the rest of the crew. Yet another wise layout decision: The galley is on the main deck. This makes service to the dining area just aft or the alfresco dining area one deck up simpler.
Columbus Yachts hasn’t disclosed any décor specifics. However, the owner has requested amenities that many buyers like, including a bar and hot tub on the sundeck.
Delivery for the new project is set for 2027.
