The Ocean King team has a saying, “We like to build yachts like commercial vessels, ready for continuous use.” That notion attracted the attention of the owner of the yacht Lori. Not only is this steel-hulled cruiser in a size range dominated by fiberglass, but she also has transoceanic capabilities that leave plenty of fuel still in her tanks.
Lori is an Ocean King Doge 400, selling to her experienced owner in late 2021. With an LOA of 132 feet (40.4 meters), she has the design elements you’d expect of a megayacht made for frequent travel. Firstly, her full-displacement steel hull has a bulbous bow. Secondly, she complies with RINA’s unrestricted navigation classification standard. Together with her twin MANs, the hull permits a top speed of 15 knots and an equally leisurely cruising speed of 13 knots. Best range comes at 9 knots, specifically 5,000 nautical miles. Even her wheelhouse windows lend the sense that she means business, raked aft. The design is common among commercial vessels that need to ply the oceans in less-than-calm conditions. Those conditions often involve big waves coming over the bow and hitting the windows. The aft slope of the windows means water deflects and therefore there’s less impact.
Even with these purposeful looks, however, the yacht Lori remains a pleasure vessel through and through. The arch-like openings flowing aft on each side of her profile are your first hint. Between them, meanwhile, an open-air sunning and social area is for the owner and guests to enjoy. This, too, is quite a departure for most megayachts in this size range. It’s further different from what some larger, fully custom superyachts show off. Even with this big space, the yacht Lori still has a beach club. Furthermore, the beach club has opening platforms aft and to starboard.
The interiors of the yacht Lori, meanwhile, create a haven of stylish relaxation. Notably, the main deck doesn’t follow the traditional combination of a saloon and formal dining area. Rather, three seating areas spread across the floorspace. Seeing as how the alfresco areas are pretty ample, it seems evident that everyone will prioritize being outside. But, when it’s time to retire, a total of 10 people can stay aboard. Three VIPs and a twin cabin are below decks for guests. The master occupies a healthy portion of the main deck.
While Ocean King premiered Lori at the Cannes Yachting Festival, it isn’t done with the Doge 400 series, so named for the volume of 430 gross tons. Yet another hull is in build, for completion in 2025.
