Obviously not all tenders look alike, but it’s probably safe to say there aren’t many, if any, like this one. An owner whose family loves diving, fishing, overnight stays, and more all off their main yacht commissioned a customized Protector Targa 380.
The 38-foot (11.5-meter) Protector Targa 380 is already a high-performance RIB for serious adventures. More than a way to head from superyacht to shore, she has a stand-up head and bunks for convenience. The walk-around deck, meanwhile, means plenty of space for guests to spread out and fish or just enjoy the ride.

The unnamed owner, seeking something to support the varying super-active pursuits in mind, had a pretty specific wants list. “The objective was to create a tender and chase boat that could be operated without a crew, allowing the owner to explore independently with his family,” says Andy Andrews, Protector Boats’ brand manager at Ancasta Yacht Services. The latter is a distributor for Protector models, plus customizes boats on request. In fact, the owner’s representative worked with Ancasta Yacht Services and the builder’s staff (Rayglass Boats) throughout 14 months to ensure the right outcome.
Interestingly, the owner didn’t have the Protector Targa 380 in mind from the start. Rather, his representative sat with the Ancasta team for two days in the Uk to go through all the models. Ultimately, the 380’s aesthetics, performance, and room for personalization ticked the right boxes.

To say that multiple customizations came about is an understatement. For instance, shock-mitigating seating with a custom-stitched and custom-designed diamond pattern is aboard. The design complements interior seating, too. Speaking of seating, a reversible aft benchseat replaces the standard barbecue and wetbar. However, it still has a flush-mounted refrigerator. Since the owner and his family might very well spend hours aboard over multiple days, the team designed and manufactured sunshades, plus covers and splash guards. When they want to go scuba diving, two convenient—and removable—stainless steel bottle racks sit forward of the Mercury outboards. Simultaneously, the racks are mounted so as to not trip up anyone standing or walking around. Whether diving for a while or enjoying an anchorage, solar power can kick in to keep electronics running.
Purely for aesthetics, meanwhile, the owner requested that the Protector Targa 380 engine wrapping match the overall colors aboard. Flexiteek, a synthetic teak, lies underfoot on deck—cooler than wood on hot summer days. Finally, smoked acrylic panels, from Anacasta Yacht Services, close off the cabin.
