An idea born a decade ago has become a multi-model line of take-on-the-oceans explorer yachts. The newest of these is the Xplorer 60 yacht series, which just marked the launch of hull number one at Damen Yachting’s Turkish shipyard.
Originally announced as the SeaXplorer 60 series, the Xplorer 60 leaves no doubt as to her purpose with her profile. Strong, rugged lines from Azure Yacht Design & Naval Architecture convey capability, for instance. Engineering complements this, with a hull meeting the IMO’s Polar Code requirements for navigating in ice. Additionally, she has stowage and tank capacities to keep her independent from shore for 30 days. Yet, Damen Yachting’s team incorporates features not out of place in more typical destinations like the Med or the Caribbean. That’s why a hot tub can sit aft on the bridge deck, for example, and why a limo tender and PWCs can stow aboard, too.

Damen Yachting chose to build hull number one on spec based on success with previous Xplorer deliveries. They include the yacht La Datcha, a 2020 delivery that books charters frequently. Overall, the Xplorer concept dates back to 2015, to tap into the growing desire to see more off-the-beaten-track destinations.
Featuring hybrid propulsion with battery banks to reduce emissions, along with a certified helipad, the Xplorer 60 yacht is for sale. Since sea trials and final outfitting are upcoming, delivery can take place prior to the summer. That still allows personalizing the interior by H2 Yacht Design. It also gives owners a full season to put the anticipated best range of 5,000 nautical miles to the test.

It further gives owners and guests a lot of time to enjoy some of the the Xplorer 60 yacht’s exploration-focused features. One of the best is the crow’s nest, an aerie for spotting wildlife off on the horizon or in the mountains. Yet another is an observation lounge at the foredeck level. In fact, it yields access to the foredeck, inviting guests to head outside to get a closer look at whales breaching off the bow.
“We expect the future will see more owners demanding the autonomy, safety, flexibility, and luxury that the Xplorer series offers,” says Rose Damen, Damen Yachting’s managing director.

Besides the Xplorer 60 series, Damen Yachting has the Xplorer 80 and Xplorer 105.
