Mengi Yay, which opened its doors 61 years ago and has been focusing on megayachts since 1989, celebrated the launch of project number 112 this month. The yacht Serenissima II slipped into the water at its facilities in Tuzla.
The new launch has the same hull and engineering platform as the yacht Serenissima I, which launched last summer. This therefore means the 154-footer (47.5-meter) is for long-range cruising, with steel and aluminum construction. Van Oossanen Naval Architects has imparted its expertise for a best range of 4,000 nautical miles at 12 knots, in fact.
Further similar to Serenissima I, the yacht Serenissima II features a sporty, energetic profile by Nuvolari Lenard. A combination of nearly vertical and sloping lines characterizes her looks, as does abundant glass. In fact, glass bulwarks are on all three decks, amplifying the views from the floor-to-ceiling windows inside.

Perhaps the most noticeable common element between the two projects, though, is the wide-open main aft deck. For the first yacht—the two projects have the same owner—a fully restored Riva Ariston speedboat stows there. A concealed overhead crane launches and retrieves the boat, too. This, despite the fact that the megayacht already has a dedicated tender garage. Essentially, the owner wanted a special display area for the classic powerboat. Although Mengi Yay isn’t revealing what the plans are for the new launch, something similar might be in mind.
Something similar may be in mind as well for the interior. Again, neither the shipyard nor the design teams have revealed details about the arrangement. However, since the yacht Serenissima II has the same platform as her predecessor, quite likely she has five staterooms. For now, Mengi Yay will only state that the owner intends to cruise the Mediterranean onboard.
Finishing work will continue for several more weeks, inclusive of sea trials.
