The largest-volume megayacht in Heesen’s history floated out of her build shed in recent weeks. Heesen’s Project Falcon is, by the shipyard’s own admission, one of its most challenging and intricate builds to date.
The 197-footer (60-meter), whose hull and superstructure joined in late 2019, started construction in 2018. The steel-hulled yacht comes in at 1,600 gross tons, which is greater than the largest-length Heesen, the 230-foot (70-meter) Galactica Super Nova. (Her tonnage is 1,130.)
Interestingly, the styling by Omega Architects still reflects the yard’s longstanding reputation for sleek-looking craft. Still, though, on the owners’ request, Heesen’s Project Falcon has some stylistic features that are all her own. For instance, a sort of bird’s-wing motif characterizes the superstructure. Seen below, it integrates the main deck, the bridge deck, and sundeck, sweeping up over her nameboard. Once the yacht is in her owners’ hands, more attention will draw to her lines, thanks to strategically placed underwater lighting. In fact, the owners want lighting to play a big part in showing off her design.
Some of the challenges for the shipyard, meanwhile, included a creative way that guests will arrive. When the yacht is at anchor, a helicopter can land on the sundeck, and guests can enter a custom-designed reception area. Furthermore, since the elevator shaft runs through all decks, its housing height on the sundeck could pose a problem for low bridges. The solution: The housing top can be dismantled.
We’ll have to wait until after delivery, this coming December, to see this in action. For now, however, Heesen’s Project Falcon promises an intricate interior. Here, too, Heesen’s interiors department faced challenges. Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design have created what the yard characterizes as one of the most elaborate and sophisticated designs it has tackled. While the woods, marbles, and other materials are not being revealed, at least at this point, they come together with leathers as well as custom metalwork and glass. Of course, custom-made furnishings and special interior lighting design are highlights as well.
Project Falcon will cruise with an owners’ party of 12 plus 15 crew and four staff members.
