The 190-foot (57.8-meter) Codecasa hull C127 made a major move along the Italian coast last week, from one site to another. She switched from her original construction shed in Pisa to a finishing shed in Viareggio.
The superyacht started on spec last year, since Codecasa noted strong demand during the pandemic. It incorporated several features it believes hold appeal for today’s buyers and guests. For instance, even though the yacht has a steel hull, she can get from destination to destination pretty quickly. In fact, the Caterpillar engines should allow a top speed of 21 knots under light load, surprisingly fast for her LOA and especially for a steel project. Codecasa collaborated with noted naval architect Pierluigi Ausonio, of P.L.A.N.A. Design, for a special hull to achieve this.
Gianluca Imeri, who heads Codecasa’s technical team, says that together, they examined “the favorable effects reachable with the use of stern supports, ‘transom wedge’ type,” for less resistance. Transom wedges adjust trim as needed when underway. He adds that the team ran computer simulations of a scale model that further employs a wider than usual bulbous bow. “After the encouraging results obtained,” he continues, the team tested a scale model. “The results of the various resistance and self-propulsion tests provided even more positive resistance data in the whole speed range, especially with respect to values around the 20-knot target,” he shares. Equally noteworthy, Codecasa hull C127 should have an excellent range exceeding 6,000 nautical miles at 12 knots.
Of course, whether heading for distant shores or hitting Med hotspots, Codecasa hull C127 has craveable creature comforts. Watertoy fans will appreciate the transom door folding down to be a platform for boarding, plus for ocean leaping. It’s up to the ultimate buyers of the yacht to select those watertoys. But, you can imagine that a few tenders, PWCs, SeaBobs, and other craft all fit onboard.
When they prefer staying onboard, the owners’ party of 10 have enviable leisure spaces to enjoy. With M2 Atelier, Codecasa has created a pool and gym on the sundeck, for instance. The pool, by the way, is about 13 feet long and 6 feet wide (4 by 1.9 meters). An elevator can take the guests from their five staterooms below decks directly up here, conveniently. The 34’4” (10.5-meter) beam and volume of about 830 tons should make the saloons look and feel spacious as well.
Complying with Lloyds classification, the Codecasa hull C127 will be ready next summer.
