Featuring a diesel-electric propulsion system, the latest 164-foot (49.9-meter) megayacht in build at Tankoa Yachts now has an owner. A European will take delivery of hull S502, a.k.a. the Elettra project, next May.
An all-aluminum megayacht, Elettra resembles Vertige in profile. That’s because they share a stylist, Francesco Paszkowski. Similarly, they both have interiors by Paszkowski, in conjunction with Margherita Casprini. Expect Elettra to welcome an owner’s party of 12, with three king-size VIP staterooms and two twin cabins below decks.
As much as Elettra is all about luxury, however, she’s all about optimum performance. Her diesel-electric propulsion system combines twin MTU main engines with two 300-kW electric motors. This provides flexibility while underway. For instance, in traditional diesel-only mode, the megayacht should see a 17-knot maximum speed. Also in this situation, one of two gensets powers the hotel load. Alternately, both the MTUs and gensets can power the electric motors (and hotel load), for a 1-knot gain.
Two other options exist as well. One is hybrid mode. In this, Elettra can rely on one electric motor for both cruising and hotel load. It’s possible because the other electric motor and one MTU engine feed it. As a result, Tankoa anticipates Elettra cruising at 12 knots and seeing a 4,000-nautical-mile range. Finally, in diesel-electric mode, where the gensets power the electric motors, the megayacht should gain 900 more miles of range, at 10½ knots.
No matter what mode the owner chooses, he has plenty of amenities to enjoy and share with friends and family. Elettra has a beam of 30’8” (9.4 meters), promising comfort. As you might expect, alfresco dining takes place on the upper deck. Alfresco enjoyment continues on the foredeck, as well as on the aft deck. The latter features a large sunpad plus big seating area, with a bar just steps away. For private time, the owner has balconies to each side off his main-deck suite.
Tankoa expects to launch Elettra next February.
