Most people think of sailing superyachts when they hear the Perini Navi name. Rightfully so. But, the group also owns Picchiotti, a motoryacht shipyard. Picchiotti has delivered three motoryachts within the past six years, starting with Exuma in 2010. The other two are Galileo G in 2011 and Grace E in 2014. Stemming from those experiences, Picchiotti is promoting two new ranges. Though details are preliminary, one of the ranges is the Modern Classic, from Nauta Design. The first model is the PY50, seen here.
While the yacht represents the first collaboration between the brands, Nauta Design is no stranger to the Perini Navi Group. It designed the sloop Xnoi (pronounced “per-noi,” meaning “for us”), which launched in 2012. The PY50 measures 163 feet (49.8 meters) and, true to her model name, mixes timeless styling with popular modern looks. The vertical bow lets the yacht make the most of her waterline length, too, which is 160 feet (48.9 meters).
Further for a Modern Classic yacht, the PY50 emphasizes long-range cruising. Her full-displacement steel hull design and power package should allow a range of 3,500 nautical miles at 11 knots. Nearly 11,360 gallons (43,000 liters) of fuel will take you where you want to go, too.
Picchiotti and Nauta Design have specified a 28-foot (8.6-meter) beam for the boat. The interior configuration is entirely up to buyers. So are alfresco areas, though understandably Nauta Design has penned some suggestions. In one layout, the sundeck has a good-size sunpad flushed aft and centered. Another sunpad is fully forward, though in the midst of a C-shape seating area that wraps around to the sides. Surely, buyers of the PY50 will keep a dining area up here. More dining and relaxing take place aft on the upper deck and on the foredeck (see top). A raised portion of foredeck features a further significant sunning spot.
No matter the ultimate layout, the PY50 keeps gross tonnage to 499, for simpler operations and regulatory requirements.
